What was Puerto Rico's area code before 787 and 939?

I have a bet with a friend saying that I think that before puerto rico had 787 and 939 as area codes, it used to 809...I want to know if I'm right.What was Puerto Rico's area code before 787 and 939?
It was 809. 809 covered every island in the Caribbean except Cuba, Haiti, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten/St. Martin, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Barts, Guadeloupe, and Martinique.
