Why my vtech 6229-2 model phone won't dail to certain area codes?

I have a cordless vtech 6229-2 model phone..which works perfectly except it won't dial out certain area codes...I can dial 773/ or 847/ but when I try 312/ or 269/.....it doesn't even dial...there's a long silence and then a recorded message about "if you want to make a call hang up and dial again..blah blah blah....any ideas? thanksWhy my vtech 6229-2 model phone won't dail to certain area codes?
do you have a long distance carrier? the first 3 area codes are in the same state... but perhaps the 312 is long distance for you to call... the last area code is in MI which likely will incur long distance charges...

when calling long distance, or outside of your home area code you need to dial 1 before the area code...

have you tried with a different phone, perhaps the touch tones are not being sent properly with your phone?

i would check with a different phone, and if the trouble continues then you need to call your long distance provider to find out what the problem is...

in the mean time you can use 1800 980PHAD for free 10 minute calls within the US, or 1800 FREE 411 and say "free call" at the main menu for free 5 minute calls anywhere internationally....Why my vtech 6229-2 model phone won't dail to certain area codes?
To check if you have a long distance carrier, dial 1-700-555-4141...You should be able to dial any area code if you have a long distance carrier...
