Cell phone area codes?

Is it possible for somebody with a specific area code on their cell phone, be living somewhere else? Or be living in a certain area and get a cellphone with a different area code?

What I'm trying to say, are cell phone area codes "fixated"?Cell phone area codes?
Due to number portability laws, someone may register a phone number (even a land-line number), and then carry that number over from company to company for cell service, regardless of the current location of residence.

As far as finding out who the cell carrier for a specific number is, there is no standard way to do this if it is not your number. You may get lucky by dialing the number and getting a message like "The ______ customer you have dialed is not available. . ."Cell phone area codes?
With a cell phone you can have a certain area code and live somewhere else, example have a california # and live in Texas, the only thing is where ever your at anyone calling your cell phone with their land line will either get billed long distance or if they do not have long distance will not be able to call you. In order to get a certain area code you have to open the cell phone account in that area before you move area codes depend in the market you live in. The way you can tell wich cell phone company the phone is from is phone should say name on outside or when turn phone off and on will display name.Cell phone area codes?
i have a 651 area code which is st paul MN and live in the 507 part of southern minnesota......... reception sucks really bad. when i got mine from t-mobile. i lived in minneapolis,mn which is 612- if i live in an area that has a few different area codes then you would have a choice.....I did anyway.
