A few years ago, telephone area codes in the us and canada?

consist of 3 digits. ( maryland was 301, VA was 703 and DC was 202). The first digit in the area code was from 2-9. The second was either 0 or 1 and the third could be any digit except 0.

A) how many different area codes begin with the digit 3

B)How many different area codes ended with the digit 2

C) How many different area codes were possible?A few years ago, telephone area codes in the us and canada?
Using your rules:

A) 1*2*9 = 18 different area codes that begin with 3

B) 8*2*1 = 16 different area codes that end with 2

C) 8*2*9 = 144 different area codes possible

More trivia on area codes - When area codes were first created in 1947, densly populated areas received area codes that had the least amount of clicks on a rotary phone (hence New York is 212, LA is 213, Chicago 312, the three that have lowest amount of clicks)

Also - you could only end in 1 if the middle digit was 0, which the poster did not mention.

Edit: fixed LA and Chicagos area code by switching them %26gt;_%26gt;A few years ago, telephone area codes in the us and canada?
