When did telephone area codes change?

does anyone know the year when the number 1 was added to area codes, ie 0202 became 01202? any answers appreciated....When did telephone area codes change?
This happened on 16 April 1995.
In 1995 the 1 was added to all geographic numbers so that other numbers 2-9 were freed up for future geographic area codes, mobiles, special services and premium rate to move into later on in 2000/2001.
