I have a question on cell phone porting.
I have:
Line A-Main (Sprint) area code Kansas City
Line A-sub (Sprint) area code Austin, TX
Line B (Sprint) area code Boston
A-main and A-sub are on a family plan. Line B is on a separate contract. The contract on all the lines will expire soon.
I want to get all these numbers to a Verizon family plan and keep the old numbers.
The current billing address is in an entirely different city (Washington, DC) and will remain there.
1) Is is possible to port all these numbers onto a family plan.
2) How do I go about doing this - should I get a new family plan with new numbers, cancel the old contract and then port the numbers?3 numbers onto one plan from 3 area codes?
I used to work for a cell phone provider, and the porting of numbers (LNP, which stands for Local Number Portability) was only available for local numbers. For instance, if you wanted to port a Washington DC number to your Washington account, it would work, but if you tried to port the Kansas City number to your Washington account, it would be declined. Unless this has changed, I don't believe that Verizon will allow you to have all three on the same plan (they probably won't include mobile-to-mobile calling for numbers that are long-distance from each other).
The only way you will find out for sure is to call Verizon and ask them if they are willing to do it - and if they say no, then you can look for alternatives before your contract runs out.
