Do fax numbers comply with telephone area codes?

I'm still trying to do a little detective work on whoever stole my identity.. and I'm just wondering if FAX numbers follow the same area code design as telephones? Like if a FAX machine has a 501 area code, does that mean that it's in a landline 501 area?Do fax numbers comply with telephone area codes?
My fax is internet based, (vonage) so it can be any area code and telephone exchange i choose from their list.

If you are going by the numbers printed at the top of the fax page, those can be anything, including a total bogus number. Those numbers are programmed in by the user, not the phone company. and if it is a theif, it might be the number of the original owner that was never changed.
no they do not always comply. for example, i have a k7 number and it is seattle wa and my efax number is utah but my home is 513Do fax numbers comply with telephone area codes?
